The Washington Climate Commitment Act (SSB 5126) had a hearing on Monday in the Senate Ways & Means Committee. Many people signed in to support the bill and some shared public testimony. Perry England testified in support on behalf of NEEC and MacDonald Miller Facility Solutions where he’s VP of Building Performance. In a press release issued this week by Clean and Prosperous Washington, he said, “we have lost a decade or more trying to get to a consensus on climate policy while carbon emissions have increased in Washington State. It is time to make reducing carbon emissions a priority while growing our economy. A cap and invest program will make both happen.”
The Senate Ways & Means Committee will consider SSB 5126 in an executive session this Thursday at 4pm. If you would like to share your support and encourage a “yes” vote, you can do so by emailing the committee members to express your support for this potential legislation. Contact information for the Ways & Means Committee Members can be found here: https://leg.wa.gov/Senate/Committees/WM/Pages/MembersStaff.aspx. It will be particularly effective to email the following senators, who are most likely to support the bill: Christine Rolfes, David Frockt, Reuven Carlyle, Steve Conway, Jeannie Darneille, Manka Dhingra, Bob Hasegawa, Sam Hunt, Karen Keiser, Marko Liias, Mark Mullet, Jamie Pedersen, Kevin Van de Wege, Lisa Wellman.
