On Monday, December 10th we had the honor of hosting Governor Jay Inslee as he announced his ambitious 2019 Clean Energy Package from the Smart Buildings Center. In a room packed with legislators, senior government representatives and our own community of efficiency and climate advocates and stakeholders, the Governor laid out a policy that will move our state to 100% Clean electricity, accelerate our efforts to transform our building stock into smart and highly efficient buildings, establish a clean fuel standard, electrify our state’s transportation system, and phase-down super-pollutants in certain products. Altogether, this policy package would reduce our state’s GHG emissions to 25 percent below the 1990 levels by 2035. We are particularly excited about the focus on buildings and the role they play in our collective efforts to decarbonize the state. Not only does this package highlight the important work we are all doing to make our built environment ever more smart and efficient, but if passed, it will deepen the value of our collective contributions. NEEC will be closely tracking this package in 2019 and encourage you to engage with the legislature and share your support for the Governor’s plans. You can watch the Governor’s announcement here, and as always, feel free to reach out to us if you have questions about the package or how you can get engaged.
