Innovate Washington, a newly formed partnership that merged the former Washington Technology Center and SIRTI, is working hard on one of its first projects to create the Northwest Building Efficiency Technology Hub. With a $1M i6 Green Challenge Grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce, Innovate Washington has leveraged a $5M commitment of funding from Washington State and $5M from NEEA to create a network of building efficiency demonstration sites that will showcase innovations in technology and approach for delivering and persisting energy savings in commercial and institutional buildings. Recently, NBETH has secured a new and highly qualified staff to help stand up the effort and working to secure and build out a physical presence for the Hub. NBETH leadership is reaching out to work in partnership with like-minded public and private organizations (including NEEC) to sharpen the focus of the NBETH efforts and to create synergies with ongoing activities. Future editions of the newsletter will report on NBETH details as they develop.
