In 2009, longtime NEEC Member Performance Mechanical Group (PMG) of Kent WA, identified a glaring need to address the excessive energy use of rooftop packaged HVAC units (RTUs) and invented a groundbreaking efficiency product that is catching on all across the country. The patented CATALYST Efficiency Enhancing Controller is now regarded as the nation’s leading energy efficiency solution for constant volume HVAC systems, reducing their energy use by 25%-50%.
Once the broad potential for this product was recognized, PMG decided to go to market via a separate daughter company, Transformative Wave Technologies (TWT). The CATALYST is the brainchild of President, Danny Miller and Senior VP of Technology, Justin Sipe. The CATALYST is a cost-effective upgrade for these systems that is pre-engineered, pre-programmed, and can be performed in only a few hours. Combined with TWT’s "eIQ" web-interface, the savings are easily verifiable and advanced fault detection techniques identify and report any operational or efficiency issues.
In the last four years, TWT and PMG have installed the CATALYST on approximately one thousand RTUs. While the majority of the installations are in the Puget Sound area, CATALYST projects can be found in over eleven states including: New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Maryland, Washington DC, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and California. Customers include Bartell Drugs, IKEA, Whole Foods, Staples, Banner Bank, MOR Furniture, Kaiser Permanente, Alderwood Mall, universities, theaters, churches, manufacturing plants, and more.
