In the first quarter of 2012, NEEC will be completing efforts to train and place individuals for jobs in the energy efficiency industry. This effort, a collaboration with the Seattle – King County Workforce Development Council, was funded through a competitive grant process by the U.S. Department of Labor. Working with numerous partner organizations throughout five Puget Sound area counties, NEEC helped more than 569 unemployed or at-risk incumbent employees find and complete skills training to prepare them for various job opportunities in the energy efficiency field including work in residential weatherization, construction trades, commercial lighting, energy auditing, energy accounting, and other anticipated career areas. This work, in the face of a staggeringly difficult job market, was challenging to say the least. NEEC is pleased to report that 210 people that were trained through this effort have been employed to date (and we are still counting). A number of NEEC member companies and other employers in the region were instrumental in achieving this result. We’d like to thank the following; Evergreen Consulting; MacDonald-Miller Facility Solutions; Transformative Wave; McKinstry Company; Sellen Construction; Boeing; Seattle Chapter of IFMA; Home Depot; Waste Management – and many more who attended job fairs and provided opportunity for new careers in energy efficiency.
 The Northwest Energy Efficiency Council transitioned to the name Building Potential in 2024. The organization’s legal name remains the same and the Board of Directors and Staff have not changed. |
