Reasons to Join Building Potential
We are the voice of the industry.
Building Potential (formerly NEEC) has led energy efficiency policy development in the Pacific Northwest since our formation in 1995. NEEC was instrumental in the development of the Washington State Energy Independence Act as well as the formation of the Energy Trust of Oregon. The organization sits on the Puget Sound Energy Conservation Resources Advisory Group, the Avista Conservation Resources Advisory Group, the Seattle City Light Review Panel, the Energy Trust of Oregon Conservation Advisory Council, the NW Power Council’s Conservation Resources Advisory Council and Demand Response Advisory Council, and the Oregon Department of Energy’s Energy Advisory Working Group. We engage in the legislative process in both Oregon and Washington advocating for beneficial industry policies and programs and participating in subsequent rulemakings.
Our members are defining the future of buildings.
Building Potential members are industry leaders boldly shaping the future of buildings in the clean energy transition. They are businesses who provide efficiency and energy decarbonization services directly to building owners or to building owners through utilities and related entities, as well as businesses who develop systems, tools and other forms of support for energy efficiency and decarbonization services. They are leaders in decarbonizing building energy use through energy efficiency, demand response, onsite renewable generation, distributed energy storage, electrification, building controls and other smart buildings technologies and services. Together they are paving the future of the building efficiency industry through programs and services that promote building flexibility and grid-interactivity, pay for performance, performance contracting and other contractual frameworks such as efficiency as a service, while also continuing to leverage tried and true approaches that still make sense.
We are a community of passionate and curious thinkers.
We support our members and they support one another and as a united industry we explore the limits of existing programs and policies, and assess how to strengthen our industry identity and position. Through our partnership with the Smart Buildings Center Education Program, Building Potential members are able to access networking and educational programing throughout the year, both in person and virtually. Our community is smart but humble and curious but ambitious. Building Potential facilitates connections between members and fosters industry innovation through moderated discussions, networking events, and thought-provoking blogs. We don’t have a hierarchy and there is no pecking order. We lean into challenging conversations, disruption, and innovative thinking. If you have ideas to share, we will give you a microphone and hear you out.
We have the lowest dues of any trade association in our industry.
We believe a more inclusive table is better than an expensive one. We keep our dues low so we can keep our table big. We want your voice in our discussions. We need your voice in our strategy. By joining, members support our advocacy work, programs, and events. Members also receive discounts on Building Operator Certification training, the opportunity to showcase their work to other members at events and on our website, and receive a free listing in our member directory.
