Two statewide ballot measures scored resounding wins on Tuesday, January 26th. A strong majority of Oregon voters passed both measures which increased the income tax on higher income wage earners and increased the minimum business tax from a somewhat anachronistic $10 to $150. Taken together, these two measures will generate over $700M in new revenue for the hard hit Oregon general fund. While these measures did not have a direct relevance to energy efficiency, it was widely assumed that their failure would have triggered the outright suspension of the Business Energy Tax Credit (BETC). A special thank you goes out to NEEC members who responded to the appeal for contributions to the Yes for Oregon campaign.
