The ENERGY STAR Program is launching the 2014 National Building Competition with enrollment occurring now through May 16th. The competition pits commercial buildings across the country against one another to see who can save the most energy on a percentage basis. This year, the National Building Competition is also pitting teams of buildings against each other since teaming up is a great way to motivate, collaborate, and learn new strategies that can lead to even bigger savings for everyone! The 2013 competition just wrapped up on April 16 and results are still being compiled. The 2012 competition included more than 3,000 buildings that saved a total of more than 3 billion kBtus of energy and $50 million on utility bills. These savings reduced annual greenhouse gas emissions equal to the electricity used by more than 40,000 homes!
This is an opportunity for you, as energy efficiency program sponsors, to recruit your customers to participate – national recognition opportunities could be a great motivator for even deeper investment in energy efficiency!
