Seattle City Light continues to work on a 6 year strategic plan. A citizen’s Review Committee appointed by the Mayor and City Council (Stan Price of NEEC is the co-Chair) has been working with the utility’s executive team on both the planning process and strategic content for the development of the plan. A number of key themes have emerged and SCL has decided to implement a public input process at this earliest stage of plan development. During the months of May and early June a series of stakeholder input meetings will be scheduled to hear from interested parties. NEEC members will be advised of these opportunities as meeting dates are firmed up. Already, some parties have begun to react to the utility’s recent analysis (which they presented to the City Council) showing that a “business as usual” baseline forecast of utility costs depict necessary rate increases over the out years of the plan (approximately 4% per year). The utility also continues to face some exposure to rate volatility due to structural budgeting issues around the utility’s fluctuating wholesale revenue in each year. These and a host of other strategic issues of importance will be a component of the public process. The utility anticipates a second round of public input later in the year as an actual draft plan is produced.
 The Northwest Energy Efficiency Council transitioned to the name Building Potential in 2024. The organization’s legal name remains the same and the Board of Directors and Staff have not changed. |
