Exciting news out of DC, as the Biden Administration announced the first-ever building performance standard for federal commercial buildings to cut energy use and electrify equipment and appliances in existing facilities. In addition, the administration proposed new rules for new construction or recently renovated federal buildings. The new rule would push these buildings to reduce their on-site emissions initially by 90% over their 2003 levels and then starting in 2030 require all new buildings (and those undergoing substantial renovations) to fully decarbonize onsite emissions. The DOE will be soliciting comment on the new rule in 2023.
