As part of Governor Inslee’s Climate Commitment Act, the Washington State Legislature is considering a bill that would implement a cap & invest program. This program would support the state in achieving its urgent climate targets, while also providing a funding source for critical building upgrades necessary to decarbonize our built environment. NEEC recently visited the Clean & Prosperous Washington website to sign the Climate Commitment Act Declaration and we urge all of you to review the bill and sign on if you’re in support. There is also a webinar hosted by the Washington Business Alliance coming up this Friday, February 12th (details below). If you have questions about the proposed legislation, this would be a good place to get those questions answered. We also recommend reviewing this post from Vlad Gutman-Britten of Climate Solutions, which addresses the criticisms of cap & trade type programs and articulates a strong argument for why Washington’s proposed program is better designed.
