Seattle City Light Rate Plan at City Council

May 30, 2014 By NEEC

The Seattle City Light 2015 – 2016 rate proposal has been reviewed and approved by Mayor Ed Murray and transmitted to the City Council for their deliberation during the month of June. The rate proposal is a component of the utility’s two year extension of their 6 year Strategic Plan update. Citing concerns about both the certainty of retail revenue recovery and equity, the utility is proposing changes in the way it structures its electric rates. The proposal, reported in earlier additions of this newsletter, would increase retail collections coming from both basic service charges as well as demand pricing. As a consequence, commodity costs (i.e. price per kilowatt-hour) would decrease from the current baseline rates. The City Council’s initial public hearing on this proposal is scheduled for June 9th.
