Join NEEC in Supporting the Washington Climate Commitment Act

February 25, 2021 By Building Potential staff

A few weeks ago, we wrote to advise you on the Washington Climate Commitment Act (SB 5126) and the opportunity to join NEEC in supporting this bill and signing the Climate Commitment Declaration. Yesterday, SB 5126 was passed out of the Senate Environment, Energy and Technology Committee by a vote of 7 to 3 and will now advance to the Senate Ways & Means Committee bringing it one step closer to passing this session. This bill implements a cap and invest program in the state of Washington to support the state in achieving its carbon reduction goals. It will have a real and direct impact on our state’s carbon emissions and advances smart policy to support the clean energy transformation. We see this as a great opportunity to support a healthy climate for ourselves and future generations, while also supporting workforce and economic development, expansion of building efficiency, industrial efficiency, and weatherization, and deployment of distributed generation, energy storage, and other demand-side technologies and strategies to modernize the grid and enable smarter building operations. We hope you will sign on to the Climate Commitment Declaration to show our industry’s strong support for SB 5126. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Kerry.
