February 2011 Launch for Community Power Works – Seattle

December 28, 2010 By Brittany Quigley

The City of Seattle in partnership with multiple community stakeholders and Emerald City Seattle is set to launch its neighborhood focused energy efficiency retrofit project supported by a $20M grant from the US DOE EECBG BetterBuildings effort. The project is focused on retrofitting homes, businesses, hospitals, and municipal buildings within a defined geography inside the city. From the project’s website, the goal of CPW is to

  • Retrofit homes, apartment and condo buildings, restaurants, grocery stores, corner stores, cold storage facilities, commercial buildings, hospitals, and City buildings within the target area.
  • Create or retain up to 2000 living wage green jobs
  • Achieve 15% to 45% in energy savings per building retrofitted.
  • Reduce approximately 70,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions.

For more information on CPW, visit their website at www.communitypowerworks.org.
