Stan Price, NEEC Executive Director, was nominated by Mayor Mike McGinn to serve on a Seattle City Light review panel beginning in May of this year. In previous years, the utility has had both a strategic advisory citizen’s panel along with a rates advisory group and the City Council and Mayor have agreed to combine those functions into a single committee to review and comment on the full scope of utility activities. Seattle City Light has long been recognized as a leader in energy efficiency and is the largest city department by far in Seattle’s municipal government structure. A combination of the downturn in the economy with low snowpack this winter (restricting opportunities for out of area power sales) has put pressure on the utility’s budget.
